Tell your story. Your piece will undoubtedly have a story... this is your opportunity to give Molly the background context around which to develop a direction for the final piece.

Settle on a concept. Molly will work with you to hash out the concept for the piece. Will it be a portrait or a scene? What's happening in the image? Where is the piece set?

Don't worry if you don't have all the answers... that's where Molly's extensive creative experience comes in!

Watch the piece develop. As the piece progresses, Molly goes through several iterations of pencil sketches, color studies and draft renderings before reaching the finished product. Feel free to offer feedback at any point in the process to be sure the piece becomes what you're looking for.

Approve and take home! With your involvement and feedback throughout the creative process, this is usually more of an unveiling than an approval. Past clients have been very excited at the site of their finished custom piece and the story it represents!

One Client's Story...

"My wife had been a professional Storyteller all her life, spending many hours fascinating children and getting them involved into her many, many stories. After she passed away we were trying to think of a special family memorial to her memory. My youngest granddaughter came up with the idea of 'How about a portrait of Granny Jane telling stories to children, that could then be hung in the children's area of the Seymour Library?' A really great idea, but how could that be accomplished now?

A mutual friend connected Molly and I. Quite a bit of time was spent just talking and looking over pictures. Molly developed a concept, and I knew we were headed in the right direction. A sketch was made and more meetings held to discuss ideas. Changes were made and sketches redrawn, with new things being incorporated.

Molly was just a fantastic person to work with throughout all this process, very willing to make changes without becoming frustrated. The end result was a very high quality oil painting that I am very pleased with. Without ever knowing Jane at all, Molly captured her perfectly in paint. People that knew her agree on this, stating unequivocally that “that is Jane”. Additionally, the children Jane is telling stories to in the portrait are recognized as real people they know, even though Molly has never seen any of them either.

My family members liked the portrait so much they asked if prints could be made. Molly very nicely accommodated us with this also. Plus she graciously attended the unveiling ceremony at the Library. All in all, I am very highly impressed with the professionalism of this whole experience, the timely manner in how things proceeded, and definitely with the finished product. It was even a bit sad to see the process come to an end. Molly Johnson Studios are highly recommended by me."     - TJ Landwehr
